INDIA GLOBAL SUMMIT ON SMEs

The summit was organized by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) jointly with Ministry of Small Scale Industries (SSI), Government of India in Delhi on 25-26 November 2005.

In continuation of the theme (Emerging Challenges & Opportunities) of the last India Global Summit on SMEs held in 2004, the main objective of this summit was to provide a sustainable focus on the future development and growth of the SMEs across the Globe. Therefore the discussions during this summit would revolve around - Facing Competition through Consolidation – the Theme for the summit.

The Summit addressed by eminent national and international speakers and was attended by a large number of delegates from all over India and other countries of the world.

Dr. S.Golovanov, GOLEM IMS GMBH, was invited to contribute to the Summit with overview of the UNIDO upgrading programmes, its results and experiences of improving SME capacity to cope with globalization and other challenges by using UNIDO information technology tools, methodology and best practices.

The invitation by Mr. Deep Kapuria, Chairman, CII National Council for SME Development and Mr. Gurpal Singh, Deputy Director General, CII followed the discussions which took place during the recent visit of CII delegation to Austria in September 2005 in the Austrian Chamber of Commerce (Wirtschaftskammer Österreich).

The presentation provided special focus on IT, Business Development Services and the Role of Associations - as tools for enhancing competitiveness of Micro, Small and Medium Sized Enterprises (MSME).  

Accordingly to the post conference acknowledgement by Mr. Gurpal Singh, "the presentation was very thought provoking, well received by the audience and gave CII the future directions for setting our agenda for the MSME development and growth".
