Interview
with Mrs. Claudia Roa Guzman, Vice Manager, MEC LTDA. MANTENIMIENTO Y
MONTAJES ELECTRICOS DE COLOMBIA, participating in the UNIDO pilot
project for continuous improvement (excerpts from the TV broadcast).
Date: 20/03/03 Time: 19:30 - 20:00
Moderator: Mr. Juan Carlos Sierra, Chief Editor
Barrancabermeja, Santander, Colombia
Juan Carlos Sierra: To answer the
question of how the entrepreneurs have brought to the UNIDO software
and how the Program has been implemented in practice, we have with us
the Vice-manager of MEC Ltda, Claudia Roa Guzmán. What are the
benefits you have received from the program?
Claudia Roa Guzman: The 10 participating companies feel very
privileged because we are gaining competitiveness in the face of
globalization.
This software has allowed us to gather information and integrate it
into the decision making process. Through the 6 modules of the software
we can see in a very simple manner how our company has behaved in a
specific period of time.
JCS: What are your expectations of the Program?
CRG: We have great expectations. This is what we have been preparing
for. We are using information that was not used before in the decisions
we took. And Pharos is not only the software, but also a Program in
which we are managerially prepared to use information in the most
effective way. Our expectations are related to all the continuous
improvement processes we are implementing, which allow us to
participate, as Natalia said, at a regional, national, and international
level.
JCS: We are in an open economy and this is the best way to prepare
ourselves.... is this how you see this?
CRG: Yes. And we have been prepared from the beginning of the
Program, with the visit of the International expert who made an initial
diagnosis and left us a plan of action which allowed us to, for the
first time, manage a strategic plan. We were able to do this year, and
analyze the environment under the guidelines set by him in a one-week
training course. Now we can see beyond Barrancabermeja, to processes
like ALCA and ATPA, and other things that may affect us in the future,
so we can be prepared for the opportunities.
Mrs. Natalia Perez, UNIDO Colombia speaks about composition of
advising committee and provides preliminary findings of Oswaldo Rossi,
international expert, regarding growth of companies, of circa 11% in the
first four months on average and in some companies’ growth in
competitiveness has been up to 25%.
JCS: Are you satisfied, Claudia?
CGR: Yes, we can see the results and that is what encourages us to
continue participating. Besides, we are the bases for the project to
continue. We have the responsibility to show good results so that other
companies who wish to participate may do so.
