Often there is no need to assess the macroeconomic
impacts of investments, or to scrutinize project pro-posals, as is the
case when investors are seeking finance. Then project analysts do not
need the full power of the complete COMFAR III Expert software
package and may use, instead, the COMFAR III MINI EXPERT
system, developed by UNIDO particularly for the preliminary assessment
of investment opportuni-ties from a purely financial point of view.

The graphical user interface, the data structures and
the underlying cash flow model are identical with COMFAR III Expert.
Therefore, COMFAR III MINI EXPERT is as easy to access and
operate as COMFAR III Expert. Furthermore, data files generated
with COMFAR III MINI EXPERT can be read with COMFAR III
Expert which may be important, when investment opportunities
develop into bankable projects, later on.

COMFAR III MINI EXPERT serves the financial
analysis of new investment opportunities including the analysis of joint
venture projects. The input data structure comprises the definition of
the planning horizon of the project, and entry formats for fixed
investment, production, marketing and distribution costs, the sales
programme, working capital require-ments, and sources and conditions of
finance. Data may be entered in local and foreign currencies. Various
features support the computation . of depreciation charges, of variable
and fixed costs, of financial costs and debt service, and of income
taxes.
COMFAR III Mini Expert produces financial and accounting
statements (tables and charts) for finan-cial analysis, such as net
income projections, balance sheets, discounted cash flows, investment
cost schedules, working capital requirements, debt service as well as
financial and efficiency ratios.
